11.18.10

November 18, 2010: Life around the Kowalski house has been very busy these days. The “bigs” are in school Tuesday and Friday mornings while I do drafting at home for an interior design group. I’ve also started making things for my friend Autumn’s shop that she’s opening on 4th Avenue. I make baby sling/pouches, crochet baby mobiles, and started a line of rocker-style baby/toddler clothes (hearts/wings, flames, skulls, etc.) with satin capes too, and also some “simply fancy” clothes for girls (embroidered flowers/butterflies with a little bit of jewel action – not a lot). Yesterday was her grand opening so Peyton & I went down to help out for a few hours while Aunt Dawn played with the girls. He wore a rocker-style polo I made – so cute! In the past few weeks I’ve also had a couple of design jobs on my own. One is a photography studio that has proven to be very fun. The mom’s group is turning out to be a lot of fun. I’m meeting new people and spending more time with people I already liked, but didn’t ever find time to.

Todd’s football officiating season is coming to an end, and he started playing basketball again. We’re all excited to have him home more often!

Peyton is doing great at school. His teacher says he a good listener, “for a boy,” and he’s a good helper. His favorite part is “playing on the playground” and “playing with the hele-tocker” (helicopter). Both Dylan and Peyton do show-and-tell once a week with the letters of the alphabet. They bring in 3 items in a bag and stand up in front of class to give them clues about what the items are. Both of their teachers were very excited when they brought boxes of Kleenex for the letter “K”. Todd didn’t think it was funny for me to put Lysol wipes in their bags the following week though. They’re learning to sound out words – really just the consonant sounds, but they’re doing great. Dylan can write all of her letters and loves to sign all of her artwork now.

Lauren is amazing. She is learning to walk now. She “cruises” along furniture/walls/cabinets, and just started transferring from one thing to another. She can stand for a few seconds on her own, but goes down to crawl if you’re not reaching out to hold her hand. She just started walking behind her little wooden stroller/cart thing. She does really short, fast steps with straight legs. It’s funny to watch. We’ve been pretty lax about doing sign language with her, but I’m pretty sure she does “all done” when she’s done eating. And she waves hello and goodbye now – officially this morning. If the curtain is pulled away, she can see our bed from her crib. This morning she stood up and looked over at us (jumping and smiling – a great way to wake up!), so we waved at her like we do every morning and she waved right back. It was definitely an “awe” moment. She’s a good eater – not that she eats everything, but that she eats it by herself without choking on things. She eats whole blueberries, raspberries, peas, etc. She’d much rather feed herself pieces of things than be fed mushy stuff on a spoon. She’s been that way from the beginning. September 25th Lauren turned 9 months old and went in for a check-up. She was 28 ½” long (75-90th percentile), weighed 19lbs 4oz (50-75th percentile), and was the hit of the office. Having 3 kids age 4 and under, we are regulars at the doctor’s office and the staff all knows us. One of the nurses picked up Lauren and paraded her around the office while we waited for the doctor. Lauren is such a ham! She smiles and “talks” to everybody. And who can resist those big, blue eyes?
